Metro Edge students compete in debate through the

National Christian Forensics and Communication Association (NCFCA)

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17

Lincoln Douglas Value Debate

Resolved: In combat, the use of automation should be valued above the use of military personnel.

Similar to the renowned debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, in this style of debate one competitor affirms the resolution and the other negates it, creating a clash of competing desirable values. There are six rounds in a tournament, and debaters will affirm the resolution three rounds and negate the resolution three rounds.

Team Policy Debate

Resolved:  The United States Federal Government should significantly reform its foreign policy toward one or more of the following Central American countries: Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica.

In this style of debate, teams of two either affirm or negate a resolution that calls for a change in political policy. One team of two debaters affirms the resolution, while another team of two debaters negates the resolution. There are six rounds in a tournament, and teams will affirm the resolution three rounds and negate the resolution three rounds.

Students may choose one style of debate for competition.
